More than 150 U.S. law enforcement officers have been killed since 1999 after being struck by vehicles along America’s highways, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. To lower that deadly toll, a new coalition of traffic safety and law enforcement groups is launching a nationwide public awareness campaign to protect emergency personnel along our nation’s roadsides. Virginia Code 46.2-921.1—Drivers to yield right-of-way or reduce speed when approaching stationary emergency vehicles on highways.

In Virginia, the first offense is a traffic infraction. Any second or subsequent violation is punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Mason District Upcoming Events

Stay up to date on monthly events and police instructed training happening in the district. 

June 6th, 7 p.m. Citizen Advisory Commit-tee Meeting at the Mason District Station will host Master Police Officer S. Faett, a member of the Department’s DWI Squad, to come and speak to the group. CAC meetings enhance communication between residents and the Department, and offer residents a chance to dialogue with members of their local Police Department. All residents are welcome!

June 9,10,11 Celebrate Fairfax Come and see a show or visit the many exhibits. Several county agencies will be there; come out to learn more about services. The kids will enjoy the rides. Learn more at:

August 1st National Night Out This is not a misprint. Neighborhood Watch Coordinators need to be on the lookout for a survey. Officers cannot be at every event. As you prepare for your night, the station will look at all the events to get officers to as many locations as possible.
